What books are on your nightstand?
- The good women of China - Xinran
- Tracing it home: Journeys around a Chinese family - Lynn Pan
- A suitable boy - Vikram Seth (not very good in-bed reading: too bulky)
- Writing down the bones - Natalie Goldberg
- Su Doku: The utterly addictive number-placing puzzle
- The complete Yes Prime Minister - Jonathan Lynn and Anthony Jay
- The unconscious civilization - John Raulston Saul
- The lighthouse - P.D. James
- Superluminal - Vonda McIntyre (I've finished this; should put it back on the shelf)
- Earthfasts - William Mayne (and this!)
- White dog - Peter Temple (this one, too)
- Schooling - Heather McGowan
- The whispering mountain - Joan Aiken
- Swallows and amazons - Arthur Ransome

Here I am in the library in one of my former residences (the humans have since moved us; the new residence is tolerable).
I like the scent books give off. I don't understand the fixation and attachment my humans seem to have for these rustly objects, though. Even if some books do smell interesting, like they have collected smells from all sorts of humans and places and even other animals, they are not edible and I can't see that they serve any purpose.
